Summary: Carver's is the best steakhouse in Utah. They have the highest quality cuts and the atmosphere is great. The price is very good for such a high-quality restaurant. I highly recommend Carver's Tournedos Oscar (filet mignon with a lobster sauce and asparagus). If you like steak and don't mind spending about $40 per person, Carver's is the best place to eat in Utah.
Carver's has a one-page menu, but offer a wide variety from steaks, fish and poultry to pasta. Every time we go my wife is tempted to order something new, but I would strongly recommend the Tournedos Oscar. I have never tasted anything that was even comparable. As far as appetizers go, the jumbo shrimp is great, but my personal favorite is the stuffed Portobello mushrooms - I am not a huge mushroom fan, but these are great.
The steaks will melt in your mouth. It is hard to find a good steak in Utah, and every time we go to Carver's I am so impressed with the quality of the food. The only comparable steak I have ever had was a $60 filet in an upscale restaurant just outside Las Vegas.
The servers are always well-mannered and obviously a cut above what we have come to expect in Utah. On a few occasions, the food has seemed to take longer to prepare than we had expected, but this is probably just because we don't eat lunch on days that we plan to eat at Carver's. Also, the ambience is great for a romantic dinner out or impressing business clients. The lights are dimmed and the majority of the light in the restaurant is from strategically placed candles. Also, for special occasions, Carver's has a private dining room that fits 10-15 comfortably. Also, if ordering dessert, be prepared to wait a while because most desserts need to be prepared.
You can expect to pay about $40 per person for entrees, drinks and tips. Add $10 or so if you plan to get appetizers and desserts.
In the many times my wife and I have eaten at Carver's, we have had a few times where a child didn't like their food or drinks. The servers have always been very good at taking care of them and even bringing them out a new dish at no additional cost. I was very impressed.
Carver's is a great value. If you want a great filet mignon, the Tournedos Oscar is unrivaled by anything I have ever eaten. The portions are generous for an upscale restaurant and you will leave feeling great about the whole dining experience.
